    About BER Calculator

This tool estimates how adding solar PV could change your BER. It uses the current BER/DEAP method and standard assumptions to estimate solar generation, how much solar is used in the home, how much is exported to the grid, and the resulting BER reduction.

The result is converted into an estimated BER reduction and shown against your current BER. It is not a full BER assessment or BER certificate. For the most accurate estimate, enter the exact BER value from your BER certificate.

Since May 2026, new BER certificates use the A0–G scale. This includes the post-works BER assessment needed for the SEAI solar grant. The Old 15-band view is included only to help compare with older BER certificates that show labels like A1, B2 or C3.

The solar used/exported split is based on standard BER/DEAP electricity-demand values for a home with given floor area and selected heating type, including standard assumptions for lighting, boiler auxiliaries and, where electric immersion is selected, cylinder storage losses. This calculator assumes your home does not already have solar PV installed.

Battery capacity is capped at 15 kWh in line with the DEAP 4.3 methodology.
